Deregistration Of Diesel Vehicles Older Than 10 Years Will Start From January 1

Delhi transport department has took a decision of deregistrating diesel vehicles which are older than 10 years from 1 January 2022

This step is took in compliance of NGT (National Green Tribunal). It also states that the owner of vehicle can also apply for (NOC) No Objection Certificate and can register their vehicle some where else. They can be registered elsewhere after getting NOC but the NOC will be issued only in region with least vehicular density.

The NGT states that diesel car older than 10 years and petrol car older than 15 years will not be allowed to run on roads in the region of NCR(National Capital Region). It met with protest and subsequently tweaking of order in 2016.

Now there are two options in front of delhi people to either scrap their cars or get it electrified. If they want it to get electrified their cars can be retrofitted with empanelled electric kits but it should be only done through agencies approved by transport department.

It stated that diesel vehicle older than 15 years which comply with BS-I and BS-II emission norms must be scrapped first. This laid down to formation of certain rules for issuing of NOC.

  1. No NOC issue for diesel vehicles aged over 15 years.

  2. petrol vehicle aged less than 15 years are eligible for applying for NOC anywhere in country.

  3. NOC will only be issued only in regions of least vehicular mobility.
